No Mud, No Lotus

The habit of the month: Focus on the Bright Spots makes me think of the story of a lotus. Not only is the lotus a perfect example of resilience, it also shows perfectly why this month we take a dive into sadness and why we cannot see the bright spots if we cannot also see the bleak moments.

A lotus sprouts at the bottom of a pond in the middle of the mud and murky water. It struggles and fights its way to the top reaching toward the light. When it finally reaches the surface it blooms beautiful and pure untouched by all the mud it had been in. In life we want to see ourselves like this lotus. As we work through our challenges and struggles we know that our beautiful lotus is waiting to bloom. W need to keep following the light and bright spots.

Buddhist monk, Thich Nhat Hanh in his book No Mud, No Lotus shares the secret to happiness is to acknowledge and transform suffering, not to run away from it. This book offers practices and inspiration transforming suffering and finding true joy.
