They come for skateboarding. They stay for education.
There is so much about this video of the Skateistan School in Kabul that puts a smile on my face. I just love it. And when I think about empowerment, the disposition this month here at Onward, I think of these girls and find hope. The Afghan Girl Power poster (0:36) hanging on the wall of the classroom is simply the best.
In Chapter 7 of Onward, Elena Aguilar shares, “When we feel empowered, we believe we can influence our surroundings and the outcome of events, which contributes to a sense of competence and confidence. We empower ourselves when we take risks, make mistakes (or even fail), and discover our own ability to get up and move on.”
No doubt these girls are empowering themselves and cultivating their resilience along the way!
