Sleep: The Magic Resilience Booster

What can you add to your daily life to help with self-care? The answer is simple. More sleep. In Chapter 6 of Onward, Elena Aguilar shares that in study after study, the findings are the same: Sleep is correlated to improved psychological health. So if we are going to focus on taking better care of ourselves, we have to look at our sleep. I often find that sleep is something that I don’t think too much about except for the fact that as a working mom of two teenagers, I often feel like I don’t get enough of it which is why blogs like this one from Edutopia are such a great reminder: Rest: The Antidote for Discouragement. I especially like the following reflective questions that the author asks:

  • Describe a time when you felt rested. How did you achieve your restful state? What can you learn from that experience?
  • What limiting beliefs do you have about rest? Write down some critical reflections about those limiting beliefs.
