Surround Yourself with Water

Yesterday we shared a blog on the importance of spending time in the trees. Today we are going to share about the power of water. I think back to my college days and the prescription that my doctor wrote for me: Spend 1-2 hours a day at the ocean. He actually wrote this on his prescription pad so that I would take it seriously. I was feeling very low energy and wasn’t taking care of myself which unfortunately is typical of many college students. So what is it about the ocean that would help me?

As Elena shares in Chapter 6: Take Care of Yourself of Onward, the ocean (and waterfalls and thunderstorms) also emit high levels of negative ions – and we need those! The atmosphere we breathe is full of positive and negative ions, but most of us spend our time indoors. So are you using negative ions to your benefit?

The book, Blue Mind, The Surprising Science That Shows How Being Near, In, On, or Under Water Can Make You Happier, Healthier, More Connected, and Better at What You Do, by Wallace J. Nichols gives more insight into this theory. The video shared in this post is from Nichols as well, Force Blue: Awe, Wonder, Empathy, Mercy, Love & Grace.

How can you take advantage of water’s therapeutic benefits? Is there some time this month that you can dedicate to spending time near or in water?
