The Freedom of Forgiveness

Forgiveness is often so hard, but necessary as we learn about self-compassion. As Elena Aguilar shares in Chapter 8 of Onward, “Forgiveness is something you do for yourself-not for the person who has wronged you.” It is for this reason that Sarah Montana’s TEDx Talk: The Real Risk of Forgiveness – and Why It’s Worth It is so powerful and resonated so much with me.

In this talk, Montana shares her journey to forgiveness of the murderer of her mother and brother. As the talk description states “She offers an inside look at what we risk when we choose to forgive, and a hopeful glimpse of the freedom that lies on the other side of grief.” Please watch this powerful and moving talk and allow her insight, strength, and vulnerability guide you towards true forgiveness.
