Love to Bake? It’s Building Your Resilience.

Cupcakes

For those of us in the world of education or those with kids that are in school, this month can be a crazy time with all the end of year parties, report cards, graduations. And by now, the countdown to summer is in full effect. We spend so much of our time looking forward to what is coming instead of enjoying the present moment.

Chapter 5 of Onward, Be Here Now, focuses on the habit of mindfulness. But there is no better time than the present to start practicing now! Often the activities we enjoy can provide us time to practice moments of mindfulness. Baking is one of those activities. And the end of a school year usually provides opportunities to bake. The article Psychologists Explain the Benefits of Baking for Other People explains how “We’ve all heard of the benefits of meditation and mindfulness ― increasing happiness and reducing stress, to name a couple ― and baking can reap some of those same rewards.”

So make those cupcakes for your office staff or child’s teacher. Allow your mind to clear as you focus on the smells filling your kitchen and find joy in the added benefit in the act of giving.
