Stop Multitasking and Allow Boredom To Set

We live in a world we were are attached to our smart phones and addicted to Netflix and filling every waking hour with input. We multitask like crazy and at times I though one of my strengths was my ability to multitask…luckily I have learned how wrong I actually was. Multitasking is not a strength for any of us. It takes away from the ability to be mindful of the present moment, to sit in boredom to see what happens.

If you at some point were like me and were proud of your ability to multitask then you need to watch this TEDTalk with Manoush Zomorodi, How Boredom Can Lead To Your Most Brilliant Ideas. She shares what is possible when we let ourselves fall into a state of boredom.

I am curious how we can help our children and students with this? When my kids aren’t attached to a device, I quickly hear “I’m bored Mom!” My new parenting goal is to help them sit in this boredom and see what happens. Wish me luck!
