As we work through managing change in our lives, the following can be a helpful activity to try (taken from Onward, Chapter 11:
- Make a quick list of all the things you have complained about (or wanted to complain about) in the last week.
- Now for each item determine whether it falls within your control or your influence.
What did you notice as you classified your complaints? Going through an activity like this can be empowering as you notice how much influence you have over events that happen in your life. And this also helps point out that some things on your list require decision making if you choose to deal with them.
